What is mechanical traction?
Mechanical traction is a non-surgical form of decompression therapy used to relieve pressure within the spine. Based on the skilled prescription of your therapist, a selected amount of weight will be utilized at either a static pull or intermittent pull/rest time. The procedure will alleviate pain caused from spinal pathologies, thus reducing muscle spasms and improving mobility.

Am I a candidate for mechanical traction?
Mechanical traction is a highly successful procedure used for treating disabling low back and neck pain. Spinal stiffness and radicular symptoms in the legs and arms due to decompression can be reduced, thus improving function and quality of life.

Mechanical traction has been an effective treatment option for a variety of conditions including (and not limited to):

  • Degenerative disc disease

  • Spondylosis

  • Herniated/slipped intervertebral discs

  • Nerve root compressions

  • Muscle spasms

  • Radicular pain

How many treatments will I need, and at what cost?
Symptoms will likely improve after the first treatment, however, depending on the severity and how chronic the pathology, four to six treatments may be recommended. Your clinician will be able to advise you based on your condition and response to treatment.
